A REJOINDER FROM EBONYI YOUTH TO AN ADDRESS PRESENTED BY GOVERNOR UMAHI DURING THE LAST ENDSARS PROTESTS
YOUR EXCELLENCY SIR,
We received with dismay your heartfelt address to agitators on Tuesday 27th October, 2020 & we appreciate your candid voice for addressing us today in a calm and appealing Christian mindset cooked with a garnished soft lines of epistemological effects.
In the wake of Endsars protests all over the country, Ebonyi state had a very bad & unprecedented record ever in the history of the state. A pandemonium that led to the lost of lives & arson. Ebonyi people that were made up of humane, calm, peaceful, hospitable and loving special kind of people suddenly took the laws into their hands in such a shocking manner.
The question is, what has really changed, why such a sharp outing by Ebonyi youths, has there been any way in your leadership that has not augur well with Ebonyi youths? These are questions begging for answers.
Your Excellency sir, We have been hearing your sweet sugarcoated words like this one but reverse has always been the action plan while executing your words.
Yes, we understand that in the protests, there were so many of the public infrastructure built by your government that were destroyed by these youths? We condemn in a strong term such actions, but why Ebonyi youths?
Your Excellency, let me bring to your notice that while we commend your infrastructural strides, there's urgent need to balance your structural development with human development. Infrastructural development without corresponding human development amounts to high level of poverty & infrastructural decay.
What use are water fountains littered here and there without clean consumable waters for Ebonyi people, what use are overhead bridges here and there without corresponding job creations for teaming Ebonyi populace? What use are decorated fancy Chinese lights all around the state but in real term, there's thick darkness in the lives of Ebonyi people when the only state university is going bankrupt and moribund under you watch.
What use are some of your white elephant projects when not even a single Ebonyi person has been employed into state service since the inception of your government in 2015 to date while Ebonyi Civil servants in their numbers are impoverished day by day with low salary, as greater numbers retired either into death or wretchedness due to your failure to settle them at retirement.
Your Excellency, it is unbelievable to accept that Ebonyi people that are blessed with enormous mineral deposits could be lavishing in poverty owing to poor management. The granites, dolomites, limestones, leads, zincs littered from Nigercem to Ezillo to Ishiagu to Ngbo to Izzi, to Ikwo to Ezza to Afikpo and all over the states, yet we die in penury and poverty.
All these spurred once a peaceful people of Ebonyi youth into unwarranted anarchy and lawlessness.
Your Excellency, if nothing serious comes out of your heartfelt speeches, I am afraid, it won't go down well with them again.
We understand you have engaged greater numbers of Ebonyi youths as appointees in your government, but sir, have you ever noticed that these crop of your appointees are suffering and as well smiling ?
We rather prefer you revitalize NIGERCEM that can engage permanently five times the number of people you appointed SAs, TAs, neighborhood watch etc.
Your Excellency, We appreciate your security consciousness and grand plans toward tackling diversified issues at this critical and sensitive moment.
The Hoodlums in question as you previously tagged them are aggrieved and hunger triggered youths, most are graduates with 10 yrs experience of no job and bad governance. Let's be sincere that no Ebonyi state Indigenous son can embark on such a suicide mission to challenge a bullets hits like they did with a security agents knowing fully well that the end tail of it is death, No one can wake up and do this without a reason.
You have to forgive your good self first and stop playing Ebonyians with sugarcoated words and do the needful Sir in terms of good governance which claimed the anchor part of why the youths are protesting recently.
Remember if ever you are nursing a presidential ambition, Think Home first before those folks you share our collective resources with in exchange for power and favoritism outside Ebonyi State, otherwise, these youths will ruin your presidential ambition.
Your Excellency, how do we justify this claim that from time to time you sneaked out trailers loads of Ebonyi Rice, yams etc and cash equivalent for gifts and favoritism) to Abuja for your political ambition while the poor masses in the Urban and rural areas are left to beg and hawk in the streets of Lagos, Abuja, Onitsha etc.
Embrace your true character and do the needful on time.
Thanks to well meaning Ebonyi Youths for we shall be great under the platform of peace for we shall always survive against all odds.
Your Excellency, I hope you are aware that the youths have not forgotten that the Presidency gave #1billion naira bailouts to state Governors including yourself and CBN gave out #1.1 billion also that we didn't forget easily, Palliative came from private firms, Donations from Nongovernmental agencies. We couldn't hear other news that period from a popular state radio station EBBC aside donations and fundraising from past and present politicians, and other donors but you claim that the State government bought the palliative which you shared 5kg rice per pulling units.
Sir we appeal that you clean your house properly before going out there to handle 36 States and capital otherwise they will mess you up on arrival.
Lest I forget " stop insulting our teaming youth with your cutlass empowerment " it is defacing us in the entire Southeast states and Nigeria at large.
Those Ebonyi people outside the state received series of insults and mockery when they viewed that photo of a lawyer and other graduates in Ebonyi holding and brandishing cutlasses in the name of Empowerment and employment into Neighborhood watch programs by the Governor, it is an eyesaw Sir.
"The poor youth you neglected or empowered negatively today shall block you from entering your village,State or Country tomorrow"
Allow God to use you for us Sir.
We pray you match actions with your words and do the needful. We pray that the youths will pipe low for now and get to know the next action you will take to ameliorate their plights, and if not, I fear what could befall the state again. I am not speaking for them but the signs are everywhere.
We love you Your Excellency and continue to pray for your government to thrive successfully in the wake of these insecurity challenges all over the states.
We also pray to continue living as law abiding citizens.
Long live Ebonyi State
Long live Nigeria.
